Close to the house
Take a day trip from Aulla by train via La Spezia to the world-famous Cinque Terre, or visit Pisa. On the way to Pisa, you can also make a stopover by the sea in places like Massa. Alternatively, enjoy the day at the accommodation, relaxing in the large garden, or on the balcony or terrace.
Just a 3-minute walk from the house, you can reach a small stream where you can cool off wonderfully even in summer. If you continue across the stream, you’ll arrive at a beautifully situated church in the forest within 5 minutes.
From the house, you can also reach a picturesque little waterfall in the forest in 40 minutes on foot or in just 3 minutes by car (it’s listed on Google as a sight). Alternatively, you can visit the larger Bozzi delle Fate waterfall, which is about a 40-minute drive away and includes a 20-minute hike. Both waterfalls are ideal in warm weather, as the forest and water provide a refreshing way to cool off. At the larger waterfall, there is also a small pool for swimming.
Discover
Lake Gramolazzo
One highlight is the beautiful Lake Gramolazzo, which is about a 40-minute drive from the house. For mountain hikes, there are numerous possibilities within a 45-minute drive. You can find a suitable hike on the Komoot app. If you arrive with bicycles, you can start right from the house, as the landscape is hilly, and there are many tours available, so I recommend using the Komoot app.
Pisa and Lucca
Pisa and Lucca can be reached in about 50 minutes by car. This year, we visited the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and everyone enjoyed it because the view from the top is very nice. Additionally, the beaches of Massa (Tuscany), Lerici, Marinella di Sarzana, and La Spezia (Liguria) are also about 50 minutes away.
Carrara and Sarzana
Not far away is Carrara with its famous marble mountains, where you can take an off-road vehicle tour. From there, you have a breathtaking view of the sea, and the charming town of Sarzana with many cafes is also worth a visit.
Cinque Terre
From the train station in Aulla, just a 15-minute drive from the house, you can take a train to La Spezia, a beautiful city by the sea. From there, you can take a train to the world-famous Cinque Terre. Although a car trip to the Cinque Terre takes about 60 minutes (to one of the 5 villages), I recommend taking the train (Cinque Terre Ticket), as the roads are narrow and crowded in summer. Traveling from one village to another by car takes a lot of time, not to mention the parking fees (if you can find a parking space at all). Therefore, it’s best to leave early in the morning because Cinque Terre is a full-day trip.
Other Attractions
Other places worth seeing in the area include the Stretti di Giaredo (Pontremoli, about 45 minutes by car) and the freely accessible “Le Dune” beach in Forte dei Marmi (about 50 minutes by car).
Shopping
There are no shops within Bigliolo.
Pallerone is less than 10 minutes away by car.
There is a Conad (cheap supermarket with everything), a pharmacy and a hardware store right next to each other, as well as a pizzeria and an industrial area with a gas station.
In Aulla there is an even larger Conad and even a heavily frequented large Lidl.
